Ogma privacy policy
At a glance
#- The app collects nothing. It never connects to a server. Your progress stays on your device.
- There are no accounts, ads, analytics, crash-reporting tools or tracking.
- Google Play (and later the App Store) handle your purchase. We see only sales reports and, if you opted in, crash statistics. Neither includes your name or email.
- If you email us, we use your message only to reply. We delete it after 2 years, unless the law makes us keep it.
- Our website has no cookies or analytics. Its host, GitHub, logs visitors' IP addresses for security.
- You can ask us about your information, or complain, at any time: ogma.apps@gmail.com.
Who we are
#Ogma makes offline language-learning apps, starting with Ogma Spanish. Ogma is the trading name of Nithin Bharadwaj Seshagirirao Muralidharan, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
This policy covers all Ogma apps and our website, https://ogma-apps.github.io/. Each app has its own section below.
Contact us by email only: ogma.apps@gmail.com. We aim to reply within one month.
What our apps do with your information
#Our apps work fully offline. The lessons and audio are built in. The apps never send anything to us or to anyone else.
Your progress (lessons completed, scores, settings) is saved in a file inside the app's private storage on your device. Other apps on your device cannot read it. We never receive it.
Our apps do not:
- connect to a server;
- have sign-in or accounts;
- include ads, analytics, crash-reporting tools or other code that collects data;
- use your microphone, camera, contacts or location;
- sell or share information, because they collect none.
Ogma Spanish
#Available on Android now. An iPhone and iPad version is planned.
- No internet. On Android the app does not ask for the internet permission, so it cannot go online.
- Other Android permissions.
- Notifications, for the optional daily reminder.
- Run at start-up, so the reminder survives a restart.
- Vibration, for haptic feedback.
- Keep awake and network state. Both are added by the audio player library (Media3). Network state only lets the app read whether the device is connected. Nothing is sent.
- iPhone and iPad (when available). The app does not connect to the internet. It asks only for notification permission, and only if you turn on the reminder.
- Audio. We made the Spanish audio in advance with Google Cloud Text-to-Speech and built it into the app. The app has no voice input. Nothing you do is sent to that service.
- Daily reminder. It is off unless you turn it on. Your device shows the notification at the time you choose. No server is involved. Turn it off in the app or in your device settings.
- Reset progress. In Settings, choose Reset progress to clear your streak, XP, completed lessons and review schedule. Your settings stay. To remove everything, delete the app. This does not delete device backups (see below).
- Links. If you tap a link in the app (for example, to this policy, our email address or a licence page), your browser or email app opens it, under its own privacy terms.
Device backups
#If backups are on, your phone may copy your progress file to your own backup.
- Android backs up to your Google account. On Android 9 and later, with a screen lock set, this backup is end-to-end encrypted.
- iPhone and iPad use iCloud or computer backups.
Google or Apple does this, not us, under their own privacy policies. We never receive or access your backup. You control it in your device settings, including turning it off or deleting it.
Buying the app: Google Play and the App Store
#You buy Ogma apps through Google Play or, later, Apple's App Store. They handle payment, refunds and checking that you own the app. They decide how your purchase data is used, under their own privacy policies:
They give us:
- Order reports. These show things like an order number, the product, the price and the buyer's country. They can also show state and postcode. They do not include your name, email address or card details.
- Aggregated statistics, such as downloads by country.
- Crash reports, only if you opted in. If you chose in your device settings to share usage and diagnostics with Google or Apple, they may send us crash statistics. These come from the store, not from our app. They do not tell us who you are. You can switch this off in your device settings.
We use order reports for our accounts and tax records, and crash reports to fix bugs.
Our website
#Our website is hosted by GitHub Pages. It has no cookies, analytics, external fonts or embedded content.
GitHub may log visitors' IP addresses for security. We cannot see these logs. See GitHub's Privacy Statement.
If you email us
#If you write to us, we receive your email address, your message and anything else you include. We use it to answer you and to keep a short record of what we said. We do not add you to any mailing list. We do not share your email with anyone unless the law requires it.
Our mailbox is a Gmail account provided by Google. Google may store your email outside the UK and EU.
Google says it is approved under the UK–US and EU–US data agreements (the "data bridge" and "Data Privacy Framework") and uses standard legal contracts to protect it. Google controls these safeguards, not us, and they can change.
Why we may use your information (legal bases)
#This applies under UK and EU data protection law.
| What | Why we use it | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Support emails | Answer you and keep a short record | Legitimate interests (answering questions) |
| Order reports | Accounts and tax records | Legal obligation |
| Order reports | Running the business | Legitimate interests |
| Crash reports (opt-in, from the store) | Fix bugs | Legitimate interests |
| Progress in the app | Never reaches us | None needed, because we do not process it |
You can object to anything we do under legitimate interests. See your rights.
How long we keep things
#| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Support emails | 2 years, then deleted. We may keep one longer if the law requires it, for example as a tax record. You can ask us to delete yours sooner. |
| Order reports | 6 years for accounting and tax, then deleted |
| Crash reports | Only as long as needed to fix the bug |
| Progress in the app | On your device until you delete the app or delete your backup. Reset progress clears your learning history but keeps your settings. We never have it. |
Security
#Our apps have no servers or accounts, so we hold nothing of yours in the app to break into. Your progress sits in the app's private storage, protected by Android or iOS. Backups are protected by Google or Apple. Our email account has a strong password and two-step verification.
No system is perfectly secure. A screen lock and regular updates on your device also help protect your data.
Your rights
#UK and EU
Under UK and EU GDPR you can ask us to:
- show you the personal information we hold about you;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- restrict how we use it;
- give you a copy you can move elsewhere;
- stop using it, if we rely on legitimate interests.
In practice this means your emails to us. Write to ogma.apps@gmail.com. We aim to reply within one month. We may ask you to confirm the request comes from your email address.
We cannot see your in-app progress. To delete it all, delete the app, and also delete any device backup.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handled your information, email us first at ogma.apps@gmail.com. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and tell you what we found.
You can also complain to a data protection authority at any time:
- UK: the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/, 0303 123 1113.
- EU or EEA: the authority in the country where you live or work. See the list of EU authorities.
We have not appointed a representative in the EU, because we process EU personal data only occasionally. EU users can contact us directly at the email above or complain to their local authority.
California and the United States
- We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising or profiling, as these terms are defined in California and other US state privacy laws.
- Do Not Track. We do not track you across websites or apps, and we do not let anyone else do so through our apps or website. There is nothing for a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal to switch off.
- California residents can ask what we hold about them, and ask us to delete it, by email.
- You can review or ask us to change your information by email. We tell you about policy changes as described in Changes.
Brazil and India
The rights above also apply under Brazil's LGPD. Use ogma.apps@gmail.com as the contact channel for requests and complaints.
If India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act applies to you, use the same email for requests and grievances.
Children
#Ogma apps are for people aged 13 and over. They are not directed at children under 13. The apps collect no personal information from anyone, including children.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If a child under 13 emails us, we delete the message after replying. We may ask a parent or guardian to contact us instead.
International transfers
#The apps send no data abroad. Email is stored by Google, as described in If you email us. Google, Apple and GitHub handle their own transfers under their own policies.
Changes to this policy
#We post changes on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Each change gets a short summary below.
If a future version of an app collects any data, we will update this policy before that version is released. For important changes we will also mention it in the store release notes. The apps are offline, so they cannot show you a notice.
Summary of changes
- 3 November 2026: first version of this umbrella policy, covering all Ogma apps and the website. It replaces the earlier Ogma Spanish privacy page.
